Postcard of the Month: September 2026
/Clymping or Worrynot?
The sailing barge shown in this early Frank Spry postcard (with his name embossed on the lower right) is almost certainly one built by Harvey’s yard which is seen in the background. The date is probably 1919, as the three masted vessel on the slipway on the right is the Nuestra Senora de Aranzuza being converted to the Easonian (see Postcard of the Month, September 2024).
The barge is likely to be Clymping or Worrynot, built here in 1909 and 1910 respectively, as most of the other candidates of the sequence were no longer afloat. My preference would be Clymping, as another Spry picture of the same period shows Worrynot without the patches in the mainsail. Both craft continued in use for many more years, with Worrynot renamed Durlestone and converted to a motor barge.
An enlarged section of the picture shows the crew are positioned in various places, all looking towards the camera. It also appears that a dog by the mast is doing likewise!
