The Doicks of Pulborough

The family name was previously Dowick which gives a clue to the pronunciation. Many generations were involved in Arun barge operation and the few lock records for Hardham Lock at the end of the tunnel (WSCC Records office) frequently list the passage of barges under the Doick name.

The Doicks were also long associated with bell ringing at St Mary’s Church where a photograph from 1883, featuring Henry and Thomas Doick, hung in the belfry.
