Welcome to the Arun Valley Postcard Trail

The Arun Valley Postcard Trail started as the title for a series of short documentary films based around my collection of cards built up over the years, covering mainly 1900 to 1930 and visiting the locations as they are now.

As the title suggests, the River Arun provides the central theme, featuring histories of people associated with the river as users or observers. My journey has also uncovered many interesting stories involving characters who inhabited the hinterland.

This website is intended to be a showcase for the River Arun and its valley, featuring still and moving images from the past and present. Please explore the Locations, Vessels and Characters at your leisure and feel free to share your own stories via the Contact page. I will try to incorporate your contributions into this site, if you are happy for me to do so.

You will find connecting links on most of the pictures and on words in bold on some texts leading you to expanded info across the site. I hope you enjoy exploring The Arun Valley Postcard Trail. Don’t miss the Community Blog section which features “Postcard of the Month” with regular new items and links to other pages on the site. Thanks for visiting.
